About Topeka Aududon Society (TAS)

TAS is a Chapter of the National Audubon Society. Since 1943, TAS has served Topeka and surrounding communities by providing nature education, outdoor recreation, and environmental advocacy. The public is invited to attend our monthly educational Programs and participate in our Field Trips.

Announcements

2021 Activities - unless otherwise noted, most activities remain cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns. This includes the 2021 annual dinner, programs, and Birds & Beer.

NEW - Monthly Bird Walks - If you enjoy watching birds regardless of your skill level or age, plan on joining our monthly bird walks cosponsored by the Topeka Audubon Society and TSCPL. These walks will be conducted on the 2nd Saturday of each month at McDonald Field on Shunga Trail at 8:00 A.M. The weather can vary, so please dress accordingly. COVID protocols will be followed (wearing masks and social distancing). Dates are as follows: March 13, April 10, May 8, June 12, July 10, August 14, September 11, October 9, and November 13. There will be no walk in December. Hope to see you there.

Shawnee SFL Clean-up - Saturday, April 17, starting at 9am. Join us at the Shawnee State Fishing Lake to help clean-up the area. From Hwy 75 north - turn west onto NW 62nd Rd - go to NW Landon Rd and turn right or north, go to NW 86th St and turn left or west and travel until you are at the lake - turn left at the first turn - this takes you to the area on the east side of the lake near the dam. We will gather in the area near the restroom. Trash bags & water will be supplied. Wear work gloves. Pick-up grabbers are helpful in picking up from the ground. Bring a sack lunch for after the clean-up. A folding chair could be enjoyable - there are no tables. There will be a birding outing at 8 am - meeting at the corner of NW 78th Rd & NW Humphrey Rd to check out the prairie chicken lek. Questions contact Debby at 785-220-6515

Membership - TAS is a membership organization. Membership dues and donations support our Programs, Outreach, and Sanctuary. Local chapter members receive the TAS newsletter which is published 4 times a year. We encourage those interested in supporting our mission to join our Membership.
